When you open a wine shop in the middle of the most exciting wine region in the world, why look anywhere else? From the brooding landscapes of the foothills of the Massif Central down to the sunny, windy vineyards of the coastal plain, the number of quality independent winemakers in the Languedoc is enormous. It’s not just about beefy red wines anymore either. More and more wonderful white wines are being produced here, thanks to advances in cooling technology, and rosé is of course king in the summer.
Whilst the Languedoc now has many hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, the really interesting wines are made using the more traditional Mediterranean and Rhone Valley grape varieties. That’s means Syrah, Grenache,
Carignan and Mourvèdre for the reds and Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, Vermentino and Piquepoul Blanc for the whites. You will be amazed by the variety and complexity of the wines in a region which only 30 years ago was considered to be a high volume, low quality winemaking backwater.
We only sell wines from independent domains. No cooperatives or agents. We like to know who is making the wines that we sell!
We have many years of retail and sales experience in the drinks sector, and we are really excited to be specialising in the magnificent wines of the Languedoc as well as some of the greatest beers in the world!
A Pro-Active Wine Shop
Le Wine & Beer Shop brings a pro-active concept to beverage retail in the south of France. We believe that we should encourage our clients to participate in as many events as possible. That's why we have our monthly Wine Club tastings and our Beer Club meetings as well as other special events. We recently held a tasting and book launch for Master of Wine Rosemary George's new book about the wines of Faugères. Check out our upcoming events on our What's On page. If you give us your email address, you can make sure that you never miss out on an event by receiving our regular newsletters.
